Our online Maths and English lessons offer high quality teaching, learning and resources to our students, designed to help them progress and reach their academic goals.
Our lessons are designed to suit the needs of learners of all ages and abilities and provide clear instruction and ample support throughout the course of the lesson. We understand that not everyone learns the same way, so we have developed a flexible approach to teaching. Our lessons will be tailored to the individual needs of our students, giving them the best chance of success. |
Our lessons will be supplemented with learning resources such as worksheets, videos, articles and activities which will ensure that students have all of the information they require to understand key topics and we understand that individual progress cannot necessarily always be achieved within the classroom and that online tutoring sessions help to support this. Our lessons allow students to ask questions in a comfortable and focused environment, enabling them to gain the most from their learning experience.
Teaching Fractions
Fractions can be a challenging and complex concept for elementary and middle school students. As teachers, it is important that we find effective methods to help them understand the concept.
First, remember to start simple. Break down the concept of fractions in small, easy to understand steps. Introduce the term “fraction”. Ask students to think of a whole. For example, when we talk about an apple, you can explain that the whole is the entire apple. Divide the apple into two pieces and ask your students what has happened. Explain that each of these pieces is called a half. Go on to divide each of those halves into two pieces, which will give you fourths. You can continue this until your students understand that fractions are parts of a whole.

Once you have gone through the basics you can move on to more challenging topics like using fractions for addition and subtraction. Start with something simple like adding the same fraction like ½ plus ½. In this instance, explain that when you add the same fractions they equal one whole. You can go on to explain that fractions can also be added and subtracted with different denominators or numbers on the bottom. For example, adding ½ plus ¼. Explain that when adding or subtracting different fractions you need to find a common denominator and then add or subtract the numerators or numbers on the top. Make sure your students understand that the denominator stays the same even when you are adding or subtracting different fractions.
Finally, use a variety of activities to help your students understand fractions better. Create hands-on activities like cutting out fractions from paper and gluing them to a poster board. You can also use online fraction games like Fractionate, where students can practice adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators. These types of activities can help your students develop a strong understanding of fractions and make it fun at the same time.
